Warp Trails #109: Lower Decks – “The Inner Fight” – 0409

by Warp Trails

The enigma of the “mysterious vessel” from the prior eight episodes of season four of Lower Decks comes to a head as Mariner is dealing with inner turmoil.

Star Trek: Lower Decks goes about paying off its season-long mysterious of who or what is behind the attacks on ships across the galaxy in the penultimate episode of season four. When Captain Freeman becomes concerned about Mariner’s self-destructive behavior, she assigns Boimler, Tendi, and T’Lyn to take her daughter on what should be a safe mission. However, that mission ends up bringing them right into the middle of the mystery. Meanwhile, Captain Freeman leads the rest of the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos on a mission to locate a missing former Federation officer. The answers begin to emerge in this episode, which wraps up in next week’s season finale. Thanks for joining us on Warp Trails as we break it all down.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The Star Trek deep cut nature of this episode and whether it works,
  • The team meeting called by Captain Freeman about what to do with Mariner,
  • The reveal of who is behind the mysterious vessel attacks and what the history of that person is,
  • Freeman’s mission to learn the location of a missing, former Federation officer,
  • Boimler, Mariner, Tendi, and T’Lyn’s mission to fix a communication buoy gone wrong,
  • The return of Captain M’aah,
  • Mariner’s reveal of what is bothering her and the M’aah’s resolution to the problem, and
