Warp Trails #102: Lower Decks – “Twovix” & “I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee” – 0401 & 0402

by Warp Trails

Lower Decks is back for its fourth season with an homage to classic Star Trek: Voyager elements and tropes and the ensigns of the Cerritos receive promotions.

Season four of Star Trek: Lower Decks has arrived with a two episode premiere. We’re diving into both episodes in this installment of Warp Trails. First up is “Twovix.” When the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with escorting the U.S.S. Voyager back to Earth, things suddenly go awry when Dr. T’Ana and Mr. Billups are combined in a transporter accident. Plus, Voyager, now a museum, is harboring a few traps for our heroes.

Next, “I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee” is a classic Mariner tale of insubordination. Having just been promoted to lieutenant, she thinks Commander Ransom is out to bust her back down to ensign when she overhears a conversation with Shaxs in the holodeck. Therefore, she sets off on an insubordination rampage. Back on the Cerritos, Boimler struggles to find ideal crew quarters while Rutherford competes for a promotion of his own.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The Voyager episode that inspired “Twovix,” and a character named Tuvik,
  • Other classic elements from Voyager that worked their way into “Twovix,”
  • The promotions granted to Boimler, Mariner, and Tendi,
  • T’Lyn’s integration into the crew,
  • The mysterious ship that attacks both a Klingon Bird of Prey and a Romulan vessel in these two episodes,
  • The outfits worn by Ransom and Shaxs and their stretching routine at the beginning of “I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee,”
  • Mariner’s mission to go on an insubordination rampage,
  • The menagerie at the heart of “I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee,”
  • Moopsy, and
  • Rutherford’s promotion.
