We are going back to the days after the birth of the Galactic Empire with part one of our discussion of Alexander Freed’s Reign of Empire: Mask of Fear.
Season two of Andor just recently concluded. In that series, Star Wars fans got an opportunity to see how Senators Mon Mothma and, to a lesser degree, Bail Organa worked within the framework of the Empire to oppose the Emperor’s programs and his growing grip on the galaxy. Alexander Freed’s recent novel, Reign of Empire: Mask of Fear, is a compelling complement to Andor. Set in the days after the fall of the Republic and the birth of the Empire, Mask of Fear follows Mon Mothma as she attempts to reclaim power on behalf of the Senate through legislation. Bail Organa has other goals, he wants to topple Palpatine by revealing the truth about the fate of the Jedi. These seemingly complementary goals aren’t so complementary, and these two Senators will have to find a way to work together in the new political landscape. Meanwhile, Saw Gerrera is beginning to organize his own faction of freedom fighters, and he has found a forgotten Separatist operative to help him in his cause. We are starting our conversation of Reign of Empire: Mask of Fear in this episode of Podcast Stardust.
In this fully armed and operational episode of Podcast Stardust, we discuss:
- Our overall thoughts about this novel,
- The setting of the novel after the conclusion of the war with the Separatists,
