2024 marks the 25t anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Episode One: The Phantom Menace. As with The Empire Strikes Back, Rogue One, Attack of the Clones, and Return of the Jedi, we are marking a major anniversary by kicking off a monthly series dissecting 10 to 15 minute segments of the movie. Each month will feature another guest from the Star Wars podcasting community.
For our first installment, we are looking at the everything from the fanfare and opening crawl to the Jedi’s arrival on Naboo and Queen Amidala’s first interaction with the Trade Federation. We’ll ask what the trade dispute mentioned in the crawl was all about. We examine the origin of the Neimoidians and the battledroids. The conversation will include Darth Sidious and Senator Palpatine’s first appearances as well.
Allen Voivod from Star Wars 7×7 joins us for this segment. Make sure to check our Allen’s TEDx Talk: Why Hope Is Star Wars’ Most Powerful Force.
This edition of our The Phantom Menace series covers the following segment of the movie: Beginning to 10:45.
In this fully armed and operational episode of Podcast Stardust, we discuss:
- Allen’s experience with The Phantom Menace, his favorite scene, and favorite character,
- The opening crawl to The Phantom Menace and the importance of “taxation of the trade routes,”
- Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s arrival at the Trade Federation blockade,
- Initially thoughts on the battledroids,
