Join us for part nine of our year-long look at The Empire Strikes Back. In this segment, Han Solo is frozen in carbonite and this deal gets worse all the time for Lando.
Our year-long look at The Empire Strikes Back has moved into the last quarter of the film. This month, we focus on the climax of the Han Solo and Princess Leia plot line as Lando betrays his friend to the Empire and Darth Vader decides to torture Han and freeze him in carbonite. With an uncertain future, Han and Leia are forced to confront their feelings for one another as their relationship comes to a head.
On this fully armed and operational episode we are joined by Chris Leddy from Sixth Scale Scavengers, and we discuss:
- Chris’s experience and favorite scenes and characters from The Empire Strikes Back,
- Chewbacca’s recovery of Threepio from the Ugnaughts and how he took care of the droid,
- Lando’s double-cross of Han and Leia and his reasons for doing so,
- What Lando must have bargained for with Darth Vader,
- Why wasn’t Han Solo asked any questions while being tortured, and
- The ramifications of the climax of Han and Leia’s relationship in the carbon freezing chamber.
