Christmas is a time for family and friends. And who doesn’t love to play a good board game while sipping egg nog and enjoying the holidays? In the 90s, it was all about Star Wars Monopoly and interactive board games.
With Star Wars board games, you can bring your love for the films to your family! Or, at least have a fun time. Here are three games from my collection: Star Wars Monopoly Classic Trilogy Edition, Star Wars Monopoly Episode I version, and Star Wars the Interactive Video Board Game.
Star Wars Monopoly Classic Trilogy Edition
As you can see, I’ve never opened this game. I’ve kept it as a collector’s item for years, but if anyone wanted to play it with me I’d certainly go ahead and open the box. It is the classic version of Monopoly, but with Star Wars characters, locations, and vehicles. Instead of houses and hotels, you collect cities and spaceports. It has 9 pewter tokens of classic characters: Leia, Han, Luke, Vader, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, the Emperor, a stormtrooper, and C-3PO.
Star Wars Monopoly Episode I Edition
I also have a collectible Star Wars Monopoly that is only about Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Again, this game is unopened. The box art features scenes from the 1999 film:
This game is also the classic version, and follows the same rules as the classic trilogy Monopoly. The tokens are all based on Episode I characters: Anakin, Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn, Jar Jar Binks, Queen Amidala, Darth Sidious, a battle droid, and Sebulba. On this game you’d collect apartments and towers as your properties.
Star Wars The Interactive Video Board Game
Now, for something different. A VHS based board game! This is also unopened, which is fine as I’m not sure there are any VHS players around anymore! Made by Parker Brothers, the game is said to feature a VHS cassette for a different game every time, plus never before seen footage of Darth Vader.
The back of the box describes the game play–it’s interactive with the VHS tape (somehow) where Vader monitors your moves. I think the goal of the game is an assault on the Death Star. Honestly the game seems pretty fun and interesting. If I come across a VHS player some where, I’ll pick it up and try out this game!
