Captain Pike and the crew of the Enterprise lose their memories and Spock must deal with a Vulcan engagement party while fully human in the two most recent episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
We are catching up on recent episodes of Strange New Worlds in this episode. First, we are discussing “Among the Lotus Eaters.” Captain Pike and the crew of the Enterprise find themselves in a precarious position when they arrive at Rigel VII. Their mission is to resolve a prior breach of the Prime Directive, but they soon start losing their memories when they encounter a former crew member believed to be dead. In “Charades,” Enterprise returns to Vulcan space to investigate an anomaly on the Kherkovian moon. After an accident on the moon, Spock awakens to discover his fully human. This is bad enough, but his engagement party is just about to commence, and he must somehow convince his future in-laws that he is still fully Vulcan while Nurse Christine Chapel pursues a cure for his condition.
In this episode, we discuss:
- The tie-in between “Among the Lotus Eaters” and Star Trek: The Original Series,
- The expanded role of Erica Ortegas in both of these episodes,
- How memory is a theme in “Among the Lotus Eaters,”
- Pikes relationship with Captain Batel and the complications therein,
- The comedy elements of “Charades,”
- How Spock deals with his new found humanity,
- Christine Chapel’s feelings for Spock and how they impact this episode,
- Vulcan prejudice,
- Other comedic elements and moments for Spock,
- The relationship between Spock and Chapel, and more.
