Dennis and Beth break down the second episode of Star Trek Discovery: Battle at the Binary Stars.

Star Trek Discovery returns with its second episode: Battle at the Binary Stars. Will the Federation withstand the Klingon attack?

Warp Trails #1-2: Battle at the Binary Stars

In episode two of Star Trek Discovery, Captain Georgiou and Commander Burnham struggle with how to confront the Klingon threat at the binary stars. Burnham might have had the solution to the crisis; however, Georgiou adheres to Federation doctrine. Meanwhile, T’Kuvma rallies the great families of the Klingon Empire against the Federation to “Remain Klingon!”

Dennis and Beth discuss what distinguishes Discovery from other Star Trek series. In addition, they ask whether this is a show of exploration or warfare and what that means for the series. Also, what is the motivation for the Klingons? Also, Burnham is a human raised in a Vulcan society. So, when should her humanity win out over logic, and when it does, what are the consequences?
