Mike Audette is back with the weekly Fandom Focus! It’s spooky (not really).

By Mike Audette //  Are we all still here? We haven’t died from trailer-feelings-itis yet? Whew, glad you made it.

It’s been a week since the trailer debuted and it seems as if not only the fandom, but the world, is still reeling. Who can blame us though? I mean, we’re getting a new Star Wars film. It’s practically unbelievable but in two short months we will be flocking en masse to our local theaters to see something many of us thought would never happen. Over the course of the past week there were plenty of podcast trailer-reaction shows, but one of the most highly recommended was the “Trailer Council” show, hosted by Full of Sith’s Bobby Roberts and featured a slew of guests from sites/podcasts like The Forcecast, Coffee With Kenobi, The Star Wars Report, and Tosche Station. Recorded shortly after the trailer debuted, the show was able to capture everyone’s off-the-cuff reactions and impressions to give us a nice sense of what events like this can do for fandom.

In the wake of the trailer we also witnessed numerous “reaction videos” that are among the norm of big events these days. John Boyega and Daisy Ridley posted their own videos, and in the process just endeared themselves to Star Wars fans even more than they already have. Seeing these young actors true wonderment at the trailer, even though they are in it, just goes to show in how good of hands we are in with the future of the franchise.

Wednesday gave us another new episode of Star Wars Rebels, and if it’s any indication by the closing scene, we are not emotionally prepared for Rex and Ahsoka to leave us. Many of us have been with these characters since they debuted in The Clone Wars film back in 2008 and have grown up just as the characters have grown up. The great thing that Star Wars does with its fans is that it creates these relationships that the fans truly believe in.

Halloween is upon us, and I want to feature you here on RetroZap! If you dress up in a Star Wars themed costume or have a Star Wars carved pumpkin and would like to be in next week’s article, reach out to me on Twitter (@mike_audette) or email me at [email protected]!
