Rogue One comic and book news, Battlefront is bringing in the Hutt and VR capability, and Daisy Ridley continues to be nothing but amazing.
By Mike Audette // As I mentioned about a month ago, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be getting its own Force Friday this fall and this past weekend at C2E2 in Chicago it was announced, to much delight, that Rogue One will be getting its own version of the Journey To The Force Awakens-style publishing program. Marvel announced Friday morning at the Diamond Comics Retailer Breakfast that Rogue One will be receiving a three issue mini-series and a one-shot issue coming in October that is very reminiscent of Shattered Empire from last fall that introduced us to Poe Dameron’s parents, Shara Bey and Kes Dameron. No other details on who will be writing or illustrating the comics were revealed but I am hyped regardless. Not to be outdone by Marvel, Del Rey gave us an announcement of their own revealing that the upcoming novel, Catalyst will also be releasing this coming October 4th. Alas, they did not tell who will be authoring the book, much like Marvel.
I think that once the first trailer for Rogue One is unveiled, the floodgates will be open and news will be coming fast and furious.
If you’ve been reading my column for the past few months you’ll know that I’ve been pretty obsessed with Star Wars Battlefront since its release in November last year. Finally, EA showed some footage of the new Outer Rim DLC package releasing in the coming weeks (today for Season Pass holders, and in April for general release.) In the trailer, there is footage of the new maps including Jabba’s Palace and the Factories on Sullust, new weapons, and game play of the new game mode Extraction. Also seen is game play of Greedo and Nien Numb. More happening this week in San Francisco was the GDC (Game Developer’s Conference) and during Playstation’s VR press event it was announced that Star Wars Battlefront will be exclusively coming to the platform when it debut’s this holiday season. The PSVR will be coming out in October at a price of $399, which is a little bit expensive. I’m very interested to see how they can pull this off, though. The possibilities are endless.
In unsurprising news, Daisy Ridley continues to be an amazing new entrant into the Star Wars community. Last month Kevin Carlock decided he wanted to ask Daisy to be his date for his college’s spring formal. Carlock put together this video as his invitation in hopes that it would reach her. Unfortunately since Daisy is busy filming Episode VIII she had to decline Kevin’s invitation and she did it in the nicest way possible.
“Thank you so much for that brilliant invite to your formal. Unfortunately I’m locked in an intense staring competition with Luke Skywalker, somewhere in the middle of the galaxy, so won’t be able to make it! Let me know how it goes!”

Daisy just keeps on showing how much of a great and good natured person she is following all the success after The Force Awakens. It’s very refreshing to see that her personality hasn’t changed at all in the face of how her world has been turned upside-down. I’ve said before that if I ever get the chance to meet her in person I would pass out on the spot. I don’t think that sentiment will change as more and more things like this come out.
