Star Wars: The Force Awakens TV Spot

by Joseph Tavano

“I know your eyes.”

Par for the course, Lucasfilm today released the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens TV spot without notice, and the the world is still reacting. We hear a voice most commonly attributed to new character Maz Kanata, given it sounds most like Lupita Nyong’o and the first image we see is the Millennium Falcon heading towards a new castle in the forest. The dialogue that follows is new, yet feels so distinctly compelling, fascinating, and imaginative that it could only be Star Wars. Probably because Yoda’s Theme is being played int he background in a new arrangement.

“I have lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people. I see your eyes. I know your eyes.”

Words are sprinked throughout scenes, mostly of Rey.

“This December, every generation has a story.”

Rey is the only other person to say anything in this spot, a simple “follow me.” This is a TV spot for Rey, and the more and more we see of this film, it’s becoming obvious that she is the central figure.

Star Wars is the only film series I have ever seen that makes me more excited the more I see of it, and this TV spot doesn’t disappoint.

Five weeks, four days away.
