Let’s be honest: the Rogue One teaser looks plain amazing. Congrats to Gareth Edwards, Gary Whitta, and the entire cast and crew for really looking to have got this one right.  This was a reassuring and highly satisfying trailer that came at just the right moment: a week after Rebels season 2 wrapped up, a day after The Force Awakens Blu Ray was released, a just when I was beginning to wonder why there hasn’t been a thing seen from this film yet.

I can’t believe how good my memories look in high definition. Yavin base, AT-AT Walkers, the Death Star–all of it looks so authentically original that it’s hard to believe these are all new sets. Add in new vehicles, new stormtroopers, a Grand Admiral and a much gritter tone, and you have a film that will stand tall among all other Star Wars films as an instant classic.

In short, I’m very excited for Rogue One. Head over to the RetroZap Instagram page for more thoughts on the Rogue One trailer.

Gareth Edwards promised us a gritty war story, and this trailer definitely has that feel. Nothing huge was revealed about the storyline, but hey its a Star Wars trailer. What do you expect? I welcome back the old school stormtroopers, the world looks fresh and exciting, with the same raw and lived in feel we know from the OT. We get a look into Felicity Jones’ character, who has a lonely background, similar to that which we’re used to in our galactic heroes. Every character looks to have their own individual motivation. Through the trailer there is an incredible sense danger and impending doom. Overall, I’m very impressed.

This film now officially feels like it is happening, and the best part? We’re mere months away from release!

Cannot. Stop. Watching. It.

What a trailer! This film is going to be gritty, a true war film for the saga. Finally we get to see the beginning of the Rebellion, and it doesn’t look like it was an easy start. The visuals of the Death Star and Imperial Star Destroyer are imposing and even frightful. It’s going to be a huge task trying to take down the Empire’s greatest weapon.

I love all the new characters coming. How about the Imperial commander (Ben Mendelshon) in all white? So different from what we’ve seen in the Star Wars Universe thus far. Mon Mothma looks wonderful, so good to see a familiar face from the original trilogy. I have to say I truly love that, like Episode VII, one of the lead roles is a woman. Felicity Jones looks like a bad ass as Jyn Erso.

The music in the trailer is spot on – dark, yet cues of the hopeful Star Wars main theme. And that siren continually going off – so ominous. It really sets the tone for the film I think; a warning that all is not going to perhaps go as planned…

I was absolutely blown away by this trailer. December 2016 can’t come soon enough.

Like everyone else in this article, I was excited to wake up this morning and watch the Rogue One trailer (finally).  The music began, the interior of the Rebel base on Yavin 4 was seen, and my heart beat faster.  Then the voice over began, and the charges against the hero (?) were noted — she is a criminal.  Furthermore, Mon Mothma states that she is aggressive, reckless, and undisciplined.  And I began to wonder, “Have we come to the point where our heroes are chosen, not for their quality of character, but in spite of it?”  Immediately, I didn’t like Jenn Urso as a hero.  She is clearly untrustworthy, as she embodies a rebellious spirit instead of believing in the spirit of the Rebellion.  A person who arrogantly proclaims, “I rebel,” is not going to simply and suddenly submit to authority essential to effectively wage a war against a powerful, oppressive regime.  The girl is dangerous.

However, the music in this teaser trailer embodies Star Wars, something I wasn’t sure would be well communicated in these “anthologies”, especially one that doesn’t focus on familiar characters.  But the combination of familiar places, people, and props redeemed some of my initial trepidation.  Stormtroopers, X-Wings, and Star Destroyers helped to blend new armor and specialized designs enough to cause me to postpone judgment until December.  I think I even saw a Dark Trooper in the mix.  In spite of my gut reaction to the main character, these elements of Star Wars are enough to get me in the theater on opening day (Who am I kidding?  The fact that the title says “Star Wars” does that.).

I suppose that when waging a war you have to pick your battles, and in this case that would mean trusting a rogue for her abilities in spite of her character flaws.  I expect Rogue One will show us the dirtier, darker side of the war against the Empire.  With that story in mind, I’m hopeful for this very different Star Wars movie.  It’s certainly not going to be the Star Wars of my youth, and that’s to be expected.  But I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of the costs of war to be clearly seen in this story, as well, even if it means that this “rebel” loses her life in the process.

The Rogue One trailer has dropped and I am completely floored right now. I continue to watch the trailer trying to learn and pick out as much as I possibly can. Right for the start of the trailer, I felt and KNEW I was watching Star Wars. The look of the costumes and sets are phenomenal and the mixing of familiar characters with ones I know nothing about sends chills down my body. This trailer just looks and feels like it won’t skip a beat in this saga. DEATH STAR, classic stormtroopers, AT-AT Walkers! Granted, it was a 90 second trailer, but what a glorious 90 seconds it was! The music/score brought so many feelings and senses of nostalgia. I can’t wait to dissect this as much as possible until more is released.

I have so many questions racing through my head, and I am sure some will be answered in the coming weeks and months with SW Celebration and D23 fast approaching. My immediate thoughts and questions: Will we see Vader? Who is the new Imperial Admiral? Who is Forest Whitaker’s character and why does he seem to know about the evil of the Empire first hand? Diego Luna appears to be a grizzled veteran of the of the Rebellion and Felecity Jones just looks like a complete badass. Jones’ line “I rebel”, made me want to grab chairs and break windows and burn things down. I’m serious that had me so fired up and I am insanely excited for this movie. Rogue One all day every day.

I didn’t think it was possible to get as excited for Rogue One as I got watching the teaser this morning. I have been keeping my expectations in check. Not that we have heard much about this movie, but it always sounded like it would be a different kind of Star Wars. It still might be, the teaser displayed a movie that very much looked likeStar Wars with enough new elements to both hit the sense of nostalgia and spark a sense of wonder and intrigue. I cannot wait until December to see this movie. Give me more.
