We revisit the Star Wars Vintage Collection by discussing Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure, the 1984 made for television follow-up to Return of the Jedi.
After Return of the Jedi, George Lucas wasn’t quite ready to leave Star Wars just yet. He wanted to create an Ewok movie for his daughter, and from this desire, The Ewok Adventure was born. Originally a made for television project, The Ewok Adventure tells the story of two children that get separated from their parents after crash landing on Endor. Once they make friends with a family of Ewoks, they set off on an adventure to rescue their parents from the giant known as the Gorax. We have some lighthearted fun discussing this movie, what it drew upon for its creation, and how it influences Star Wars today.
In this fully armed and operational episode of Podcast Stardust, we discuss:
- Some of the history of Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure,
- Our overall thoughts on this made for television movie and history with it,
- How the Ewoks were portrayed in this TV special.
- The choices made when it came to including real world animals,
- The special effects and how some were successful and others not so much,
- Other movies, books, and stories that may have influenced this special, and
- How Caravan of Courage has influenced other Star Wars projects and shown up as Easter eggs in other projects.
