Spider-Man: Far From Home was not only filming on bridges, but they were building them too!
LOCATION: Ponte di Rialto (Sestiere San Polo, 30125 Venezia VE, Italy)
SHOW: Spider-Man: Far From Home
With the physical and digital releases of Spider-Man: Far From Home being available, it’s a good time to start looking at some details of the location from this film. It’s a globetrotting production, having filmed in New York, London, Prague, Spain and of course Italy.
With the release of the trailer six months ago, audiences were first treated to some great view of Venice, including the Ponte di Rialto (The Rialto Bridge). A popular tourist attraction, this bridge is the oldest of the four bridges that span the grand canal, and is a featured area in the film.
While the production was on site in Venice, filming with the actors to get that authentic feel, many people don’t realize that the action scenes surrounding the Ponte di Rialto were actually created on the backlot at Leavesden Studios in Watford, outside London. Some great behind-the-scenes photos appear in the recently released book Spider-Man: Far From Home – The Art of the Movie by Eleni Roussos.
Basically, any time you see water effects and the characters running around by the bridge, that was something that took place on the soundstage. According to the book, they had to build the bridge in three sections: The one that is seen in the image here, as part of the large tank at the studios, and the other two in dry dock set for the stunts.
Just remember that movies can pull off shots that seem like they were filmed a long way away, but in actuality they were really weren’t that far from home.
