Celebrate doing everything yourself on this “Independence” Day. Enjoy Stuff looks at their favorite Indie Films, how they got made, and what their influence is.

What we’re Enjoying

Jay found an old black and white noir film called The Big Combo from 1955. It had some great examples of the noir movies of the time. And some great performances from a few people you might recognize, such as Lee Van Cleef. Shua has been watching a very retro show on the Shout! Studios YouTube channel called Space: 1999. This was a show, pre-Star Wars that inspired Shua to enjoy sci-fi. You can check it out now, along with some other cool retro shows.

Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisits the cinematic story from the Firefly universe. Serenity came out in 2005 in response to fans of the show that wanted more after its untimely cancellation. The movie also successfully tells a story of a fun western/sci-fi hybrid world. Check it out today!  Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to  SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

Enjoy Movies!

This week in the United States is Independence Day. A time for the country to celebrate breaking away from a big empire. So this week we look at some filmmakers that break away from big empires of movie studios to do their own thing and get out a story that they are passionate about.

Well-known directors such as George Lucas, John Carpenter, George Miller, Kevin Smith, and Quentin Tarantino all got their starts by making small, independent movies. Not all filmmakers garnish as much power as these directors. Some remain small, but no less dedicated to their work. So kick up your feet and put on a movie that you may not have heard of before.
