Star Wars Battlefront updates, Rian Johnson is awesome, and the definitive ranking of Imperial sideburns. Another great week in the world of Star Wars!

By Mike Audette //  With the release of Star Wars Battlefront last fall, EA promised a lot more would be coming to the game from DLC (downloadable content), some of the free variety and others that would be paid for. In December EA dropped the first bit of DLC that introduced us to our first glimpses of the Battle of Jakku and an all new game mode called “Turning Point.” Both the new Jakku maps and the new game mode were great additions to the already gorgeous game. In the original release, EA had promoted the DLC “Season Pass” that would have four packages coming out one per quarter in 2016. The first release has slowly been releasing over time from January until the main release coming in March which is being labelled the “Outer Rim DLC” package. The update that came out this week featured a brand new map on Hoth for large format game modes, Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point, and it also expanded the playable maps for Turning Point to all planets not just Jakku. These releases have constantly improved upon each other and adds to the play-ability of the game giving a variety of environments, scenarios, and events. The update in March promises to introduce new hero and villain characters that have not yet been revealed but may have been teased in an image release from EA.

Part of the March update will involve adding new maps, including Jabba’s palace, weapons, and an all-new game mode. If you look closely at the image you are able to make out a pointing Sullustan which appears to be Nien Numb and to the northeast of him you can see a green-skinned Rodian which bears striking resemblance to poor bounty hunter, Greedo (Sorry, Bill.) I’ve been engrossed with this game since it’s release last November and all these new additions are adding variety of play and are very timely to keep the playing experience fresh.

This week’s episode of Star Wars Rebels provided a whole lot of Agent Kallus. One thing that stands out instantly with Kallus besides his dreamy voice, is his sideburns. Following a long history of Imperial Officers, Kallus has undoubtedly the greatest set of chops seen throughout the Empire’s reign. Amy Ratcliffe went ahead and did the work for you in officially ranking of the ‘burns over the years. Due to the original filming of Star Wars and the sequels taking place in the late 1970s and early 1980s, these hairstyles were the norm for men’s fashion. I think there needs to be a comeback for rockin’ sideburns.

On Monday, Episode VIII director Rian Johnson tweeted out the above picture welcoming us to week two of filming for the anticipated sequel to The Force Awakens. If you’ve been following Rian on Twitter you can tell he has a great sense of humor that will serve him well going through the filming process. I’m really looking forward to see what Rian has in store in regards to releasing things from filming. With JJ, he featured his famous hand-written notes often teasing something that was involved in the filming. In this little piece from Rian it looks like some sort of instrumental panel, possibly of the First Order. Can you figure out the word to 62 Across?

The 88th Annual Academy Awards were Sunday night and The Force Awakens came away with a giant goose egg. Much to the chagrin of fans online, TFA had the unfortunate draw of being in a lot of the same categories that Mad Max: Fury Road was in, which went on to rout. I do not pretend to care about the Oscars or shows like this in general, the only thing that gets me is that all those who worked so hard on The Force Awakens have to go home disappointed. I guess they get the last laugh when they check out the box office totals.

At least I can say I’ve hung out with an Oscar nominee.

And my goodness, Daisy Ridley is just incredible.
