The Audette Set: January 12, 2016

by RetroZap Staff

An amazing video combining Star Wars the the New England Patriots, Oscar Issac wins at the Golden Globes, and more!

By Mike Audette //  Another week in the post-The Force Awakens world. Still doesn’t make it seem any less impactful, though. Unsurprisingly, it claimed another weekend, owning the top spot in the box office. The Force Awakens still has legs with people seeing it on multiple viewings–it outshined Leo’s latest offering, The Revenant (which I saw and loved by the way). Also it finally saw its release in China–the second largest movie-going market behind the United States–and it is gunning for the title of all-time leader in the worldwide box-office ranks. Ashamedly, I am still only on 4 viewings myself. Stupid life getting in the way of Star Wars!

It’s that time of year when the NFL regular season has come to an end and the playoffs are beginning. By chance, many of us at RetroZap are from the Boston-area and this video hits all our check marks. New England Patriots? CHECK. Tom Brady, the greatest of all time? CHECK. Star Wars?! CHECK! Even putting aside your fandom of whatever team you root for, I bet that you will still get chills from this video featuring the audio and voiceover from the Monday Night Football full trailer. Just thinking about it gives me chills.

Since the release of The Force Awakens, Twitter has been awash with jokes, memes and parodies based off the film. None have been better than Emo Kylo Ren and Very Lonely Luke. Emo Kylo plays off Kylo’s knack for temper tantrums and paternal problems. Some excellent tweets involve claiming Han is a terrible father, his clear obsession with Darth Vader, and delving into his relationship with General Hux. Lonely Luke is a brilliant take on what Luke’s mindset is being all alone on that island we see at the end of The Force Awakens. From confessing his true love, to his rules for Hermit Club, and wondering if he ever got replaced with a “New Luke”. And make sure you check out this tweet from Lonely Luke that sparked an amazing back and forth between the two twitter accounts. People’s creativity knows no bounds!

Obi-Wan & Anakin, the audette set, comics commentary

This week also saw the conclusion of the “Vader Down” comics crossover event from Marvel and the release of Obi-Wan & Anakin. Be sure to check out Dennis Keithly’s review of the first issue of Obi-Wan & Anakin and keep an eye out for reviews of “Vader Down”!

And lastly, a hearty congratulations to Poe Dameron himself, Oscar Isaac, for winning at the Golden Globes for “Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie” for his wonderful performance in HBO’s Show Me A Hero!

oscar issac, golden globes, the audette set,

Unfortunately, no Golden Globes for his portrayal of Poe Dameron.
