James Volpe is back with another sketch from HIS collection! Don’t let your pursuit of trinkets cloud your reality.
General Grievous was the ultimate collector of lightsabers during the Clone Wars. His personal pursuit was adding as many Jedi trophies to his collection as possible. Count Dooku warned Grievous if he let down his guard and sought only the trophies, he would be doomed to fail. This was one of my favorite scenes from the Genndy Tartakovsky animated microseries that were produced prior to the full-scale series in 2008.
So I starting thinking: what if General Grievous was the ultimate collector of Star Wars toys? What would be the focus his collection? I envision him collecting all the six-inch Hasbro Black Series figures. He would have gone to great lengths to get all the Jedi figures: the San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Obi-Wan Kenobi or Jedi Luke Skywalker from Return of the Jedi. On the other hand, maybe he too was on a Fett Quest to collect all versions of Boba Fett. He would have fought with the best of them on eBay to get what he wanted. I give you, Grievous the Collector:
Only then will ensure victory and have your trophy.
Being a collector myself, I can understand the need to have it all. I have a modest collection of my favorite characters from all the movies including Rogue One. Never have I wanted to be the ultimate collector of Star Wars toys but there are a lot of great figures out there I really want to have. Like many a collector I have always thought if I could only have back the original toys I possessed as a kid, I would be satisfied. Give me an original Yoda and Boba Fett to play with and I will be a happy camper.
Wise counsel my apprentice. Most wise.
