The Audette Set: April 5th

by RetroZap Staff

The season two finale of Rebels was a whopper, Ahsoka finally gets a novel, and THE FORCE AWAKENS IS OUT!

By Mike Audette //  This past Wednesday it all went down. It happened. It was amazing and spectacular and all those kind of superlatives at the same time. The season two finale of Star Wars Rebels was some of the best Star Wars visual media I’ve ever witnessed. Everything from the return of Maul, Ezra learning about the dark side of the Force, Ahsoka trying to impart wisdom onto Kanan about learning to trust Ezra, the Inquisitors getting their just desserts, and finally the Ahsoka-Darth Vader confrontation. Make sure you listen the Brews and Blasters finale roundtable!

Back to how this got the entire Star Wars community turned on its collective heads. You couldn’t have guessed the plot if this episode if you tried. The absolutely brilliant thing that this episode managed to do was gain the admiration of fans across the board. Throughout the season, a lot of people were very critical of the series, often lambasting it for its apparent “filler episodes” and its childish nature. Not that there is anything wrong with criticizing the things you love when it’s warranted. To me, this is an instance where it’s not really warranted.

Pretty much everything Dave Filoni and crew have done with The Clone Wars and Rebels so far is worthy of the viewers’ trust. There can be gripes here and there, but the overwhelming hate was certainly disappointing (I didn’t see any hate. -Ed.). Luckily, what this finale did was bring everyone back full circle. Season three looks to be quite the craziness. Don’t forget to read Dengar Dan’s episode review for an in-depth look at the finale!

Ahsoka-Tano-Book-03302016

That’s right. Coming this October, smack dab in the mad rush of Rogue One hype, there will be a full-fledged Ahsoka Tano novel! This is something that has been a long time coming for Ahsoka fans and looks to be something–based on the track record coming from Disney-Lucasfilm Press–that will be of the utmost high quality. The novel, which is being classified as YA (Young Adult,) will be penned by E.K. Johnston.  Read the official release from Disney-Lucasfilm Press Press:

Ahsoka Tano, fan favorite character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, will be the star of her own young adult novel from Disney Lucasfilm Press this October 11, 2016! Fans have long wondered what happened to Ahsoka after she left the Jedi Order near the end of the Clone Wars, and before she re-appeared as the mysterious Rebel operative Fulcrum in Rebels. Finally, her story will begin to be told. Following her experiences with the Jedi and the devastation of Order 66, Ahsoka is unsure she can be part of a larger whole ever again. But her desire to fight the evils of the Empire and protect those who need it will lead her right to Bail Organa, and the Rebel Alliance….

One wonders what stories this novel could tell. It’s highly likely that there will be use of some of the episode scripts from unaired The Clone Wars seasons after the series cancellation. It was mentioned in Lost Stars, when Wedge is trying to recruit Thane to the Alliance, that he himself was recruited by Fulcrum. Now that it is known Ahsoka was Fulcrum, hopefully this leads to learning more about Ahsoka’s behind-the-scenes work in the Rebellion, her relationship with Bail Organa, and even possibly Leia!

On Friday, our long awaited national nightmare came to an end. The Force Awakens officially released on digital. And I was there to live tweet my first viewing since Christmas Eve.

There was also a brief intermission for a conversation with Pablo Hidalgo and Charles Soule.

That’s why he calls it a XXL-Wing

I haven’t watched the special features yet, but I have heard a lot of good things coming from people who have seen them so I’m interested to see what they add to the overall film experience!
